You Sick? Maybe you should try my spicy chili chicken soup!
I woke up this morning full of stuffiness, my nose was blocked, I was sneezing so much it hurt, bereft of energy and distinctly lacking motivation I decided today was a good day to make chicken soup. Affectionately known as Jewish penicillin, chicken soup seems to be the ‘go to’ meal whenever you are feeling under the weather, I’m pretty sure there is some science behind why it works so well at pepping you up but I won’t bore you with that.
It’s worth noting that you only get out what you put in with food, and this soup is no exception so buy the best chicken you can afford. I visited a butcher today, and when I told him I wanted one of his free-range chickens for a soup he reeled and said ‘that’s a bit posh for a soup isn’t it?’
I was taken back a bit by that, I mean here he has displayed to me a wonderful array of top-class produce only for him to sneer at the idea of using it in something so plain as a ‘soup’. Well shame for him he didn’t get to try some, because if I do say so myself this was no ordinary ‘plain soup’.
