Description

Skillet Ravioli Lasagna blends Italian comfort classics into one delicious pan-cooked marvel. Cheese-filled ravioli layers merge with rich marinara and melted mozzarella, creating a quick weeknight dinner solution you’ll crave again and again.

Ingredients

Scale

Meats:

  • 1 pound bulk mild or hot Italian sausage

Dairy and Cheeses:

  • 8 ounces (226 grams) whole milk mozzarella, shredded and divided (about 2 cups)

Main Cooking Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 (24-ounce / 680 grams) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 (20-ounce / 567 grams) package refrigerated four-cheese ravioli (such as Buitoni)

Herbs:

  • 2 tablespoons torn fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C), positioning the oven rack 8 inches from the heat source to ensure even cooking.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble the sausage into the skillet, cooking until it browns completely and loses its pink color, approximately 6 to 7 minutes.
  3. Pour marinara sauce and of water into the skillet, stirring to incorporate the browned sausage bits from the bottom. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Gently introduce the ravioli into the sauce, stirring carefully to prevent tearing. Allow the sauce to simmer and thicken while the ravioli becomes tender, which typically takes 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat. Carefully transfer half of the ravioli and sausage mixture to a separate bowl, creating space for layering.
  6. Distribute half of the mozzarella cheese evenly over the remaining mixture in the skillet. Top with the reserved ravioli mixture, then complete the layer with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  7. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until the cheese melts and develops a light golden-brown color.
  8. Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh chopped basil leaves. Serve immediately while hot and bubbling.

Notes

  • Quickly brown sausage to develop deep, rich flavors that infuse the entire dish with savory goodness.
  • Use an ovenproof skillet to seamlessly transition from stovetop to oven, minimizing dishes and maximizing convenience.
  • Gently stir ravioli to prevent tearing, ensuring each pasta pocket remains intact and perfectly cooked.
  • Layer cheese strategically to create delicious pockets of melted mozzarella throughout the skillet lasagna.
  • Serve immediately after baking to enjoy the irresistible combination of bubbling cheese and tender ravioli.
  • Fresh basil adds a bright, aromatic finish that elevates the entire comfort food experience.
